Abstract
Cet article vise à mieux comprendre les motifs au cœur des choix de l’école secondaire par des parents immigrants dans le contexte montréalais. Mobilisant la sociologie de l’expérience de Dubet (1994), l’analyse révèle que les parents immigrants tentent d’articuler des logiques distinctes, entrant parfois en contradiction, afin de prendre leur décision. Considérant les effets de la classe sociale, de l’appartenance ethnoculturelle/raciale, mais aussi du rapport particulier qu’entretiennent des parents immigrants à la société d’accueil et à ses institutions sur les motifs de choix de l’école, l’article permet l’avancement des connaissances sur ces questions. D’abord, l’analyse révèle les (im)pertinences de la classe sociale en tant que catégorie analytique des motifs des parents immigrants. Ensuite, elle met en lumière des motifs précis, liés à la délocalisation accompagnant l’immigration, peu soulevés dans la littérature sur le choix de l’école. Enfin, elle corrobore des enjeux vécus par les parents immigrants racisés soulevés par d’autres études.
