Le concept d’honneur, plus connu dans un contexte interculturel, permet de comprendre certaines sources d’inégalités entre les sexes, entraînant des situations de violence qui touchent principalement les femmes (Lamboley, 2016). Bien que ce concept soit utilisé pour analyser certaines situations dans différentes communautés religieuses (Mojab, 2012), ce dernier est peu utilisé pour analyser la vie dans différentes communautés dites sectaires. Cet article a pour but de remédier à ce vide de connaissances en comparant le quotidien de femmes vivant ou ayant vécu dans des communautés migratoires et des groupes dits sectaires. La comparaison du vécu de femmes vivant dans ces deux types de communautés permettra ultimement de saisir la pertinence ou non du concept de violence basée sur l’honneur et de saisir les formes de violences vécues par ces femmes. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, des entretiens ont été réalisés auprès de femmes immigrantes (11 femmes) et auprès de femmes ayant vécu dans une communauté mormone polygame dite sectaire (30 femmes). Quatre thématiques communes aux réalités de celles-ci ont été relevées et sont au coeur de l’analyse : le contrôle patriarcal communautaire, le contrôle exercé par les femmes sur les autres femmes, le contrôle de soi et les stratégies de recherche d’aide.
