Abstract
In this third and final act of “Derrida in Montreal,” we see Derrida in April 1997, some eighteen years after the second act, yet again in Montreal, speaking at the Canadian Center for Architecture, giving a series of improvised remarks that would later be published under the title “A Certain Impossible Possibility of Saying the Event.” We here see Derrida returning yet again to the question of the speech act, some twenty-six years after “Signature Event Context,” this time with a renewed emphasis on the event. We thus see how Derrida’s earlier appropriation of speech act theory eventually turned into a rethinking of the event as what comes before every speech “act” and all performativity in general, the event as what involves a certain passivity rather than activity and a lack of performative power rather than a special form of it. Through this reading, we are able to take the measure of both the continuity in Derrida’s work from the early 1970s through the late 1990s and the important shifts or transformations—the chance mutations, perhaps—within it.
Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Full frame distilled prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
