El presente trabajo busca analizar la transición entre un Río de la Plata guerrero y otro pacificado. Nuestra hipótesis radica en sostener que varios de los mecanismos principales que terminarán permitiendo ese funcionamiento relativamente pacífico de la sociedad comenzaron a gestarse y a implementarse por vez primera en el Estado de Buenos Aires durante las décadas de 1850/60, aunque sus efectos pacificadores más evidentes solo se logran apreciar décadas después. Más que un estudio acabado nos interesa presentar una reflexión sobre algunos aspectos de la pacificación en la campaña bonaerense promediando el siglo XIX. Primero desarrollaremos un breve análisis de los estudios sobre la construcción de la paz para luego dar lugar a un sucinto panorama sobre algunas características de la sociedad guerrera de la primera mitad del siglo XIX en el territorio del Río de la Plata. Más adelante nos centramos puntualmente en la experiencia del Estado de Buenos Aires (1852-1862) y en ciertos mecanismos que se intentaron introducir desde el gobierno porteño para desmantelar las bases de las ya aludidas dinámicas bélicas.
