Drawing on cinematic GoPro 8 footage collected in Vancouver from April to June of 2020, this chapter describes the metaphor of a ‘double-edged sword’ of people’s changed mobility behaviour as a result of the pandemic; there is simultaneously a resurgence of ‘slow’ mobility like walking and cycling in public space, but also an expansion of private car use. While the latter is certainly concerning, the COVID-19 crisis proved that transport behaviour is not as difficult to change as people had assumed. Using the framework of mobility justice, the chapter suggests how expanding cycling in the post-COVID city might proceed in a more socially and ecologically equitable manner, by targeting the inner suburbs.
