Abstract
Significance Prices have soared more than ever since 2021 despite rising living costs, tighter credit standards and the partial reversal of monetary policies this year, raising concerns about potential bubbles. Impacts House price growth (14.3% in the OECD in fourth-quarter 2021) may more than halve by end 2022 but 2023-24 will see most of the slowdown. Banks will keep tightening credit standards because high living costs raise the risk of insolvency for low-to-middle-income households. The stabilisation and possible slimming of central banks’ balance sheets will reduce demand from international investors for properties.
