El presente trabajo aborda la presencia y la significancia de los jóvenes del conversatorio universitario en las páginas de Mercurio Peruano durante los años 1919-1921. Para ese motivo, se examina el problema desde los siguientes aspectos: el contexto que propició la ciudad de Lima a inicios del siglo XX en la formación del quehacer intelectual para los jóvenes.1 En segundo lugar, se examina la aparición de una publicación periódica de ciencias sociales como el Mercurio Peruano en la trama cultural limeña. En ese sentido, se analiza cómo se forma un espacio intergeneracional para debatir y, también, para observar cómo se adecuan los jóvenes del conversatorio en el mensuario arielista. Finalmente, se busca caracterizar los rasgos distintivos de la iniciativa del conversatorio universitario, a partir de las experiencias particulares y comunes de dos participantes: Raúl Porras Barrenechea y Luis Alberto Sánchez.
