Le 29 décembre 2021 marque le vingt-cinquième anniversaire de la signature des accords « pour établir une paix ferme et durable » qui ont officiellement mis fin au long conflit armé interne au Guatemala (1960-1996). Composés de onze textes et d’un accord final, leur rédaction – encadrée par les Nations unies – s’est étalée sur plusieurs années. Ils ont été finalement conclus plus de dix ans après le début de la « transition démocratique » du pays.
