Abstract
Un temps intitulé « Birkin double jeu Varda » parce que le jeu de l’acteur et le je du cinéaste sont mis en partage devant la caméra, le long métrage Jane B. par Agnès V. (1987) narrativise l’expérimentation du portrait en cinéma par la cinéaste et celle qu’elle préfère nommer sa « modèle ». La règle de ce jeu est simple et énoncée dès l’ouverture du film : il s’agit, pour l’actrice, de toujours regarder dans la caméra comme si c’était la cinéaste qu’elle regardait ; pour la cinéaste, d’énoncer clairement ses règles et ce qu’elle attend en termes de vrai et de faux. Cet article analyse en suivant un axe poétique, éthique et poïétique, la manière dont, en reprenant la topique littéraire picaresque du maître et du valet et celle, picturale, de la dame au coffre, la cinéaste réfléchit dans ce film la dimension créatrice de l’acteur qui s’actualise au terme d’un dialogue avec la cinéaste et prend sa source dans un travail sensible du corps.
