Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The files provided here consist of the data, scripts, and computational environment required for reproducing the results presented in the manuscript CLASSIC v1.0: the open-source community successor to the Canadian Land Surface Scheme (CLASS) and the Canadian Terrestrial Ecosystem Model (CTEM) - Part 2: Global Benchmarking submitted to Geoscientific Model Development. To run the analysis: Download all files into an empty folder located on your Linux machine. Run the script ./run_benchmarking_singularity.sh from your terminal. The script will extract the content of all tar files and execute R scripts using a singularity container. The singularity container provides the computational environment so that you don't need to worry about dependencies. The analysis can take several hours on a laptop. Requirements: Linux with singularity and tar installed. For Windows and Mac, please refer to instructions provided here.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Teacher imitation

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
