Qu’est-ce qu’être latino-américain ? De quelle manière éprouvons-nous le monde ? Quel rôle joue l’expérience (sociale) dans la construction identitaire ? À quel point détermine-t-elle le cours de l’Histoire ? Le but de cette étude est de mener à bien une déconstruction qui nous permettra de mieux comprendre l’identité latino-américaine. Pour ce faire, nous empruntons des outils théoriques à des disciplines aussi variées que l’histoire et les sciences politiques mais nous faisons principalement appel à la sociologie de l’imaginaire et à la sociologie de l’expérience car ces deux éléments, l’expérience et l’imaginaire, dialoguent, se complémentent, s’actualisent. Les éléments mobilisés (temporalité non linéaire, matrice fondationnelle, identité duelle, chiasme, enracinement dynamique, blessures héritées, fables compensatoires, libido narcissique, passé non honoré) constituent un arsenal théorique qui nous a permis de dévoiler les rouages intimes de la vie sociale latino-américaine et, par conséquent, de son histoire.
