Abstract
Réalisé dans le centre historique de Laval, à l’emplacement de l’ancien cloître à galeries de la collégiale Saint-Tugal, ce diagnostic a mis au jour une occupation continue depuis le 10e-11e siècle. Quelques structures fossoyées et un sol de terre battue signalent la présence probable d’un habitat daté entre le 10e et le 12e siècle. Du début du 13e siècle jusqu’au milieu du 15e siècle, le terrain sert ensuite de jardin ou d’arrière cour à proximité d’habitats. De nombreuses fosses-dépotoirs ont été identifiées et ont livrées un mobilier varié. Un changement majeur s’opère vers 1460-1470 avec la construction du cloître de la collégiale Saint-Tugal qui s’inscrit dans un ambitieux programme architectural conduit par les seigneurs de Laval. L’emprise des galeries nord et est a été sondée, ce qui a permis d’étudier six sépultures individuelles et un probable ossuaire établis entre le 15e et le 18e siècle. Le cloître est détruit à la Révolution française, et le terrain redevient un jardin et une cour. Il est ensuite transformé en parking à partir de 1969.
