It is my great pleasure and honor to have been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields (IJNM), starting from July 2022. IJNM is a Wiley journal with 35 years of tradition behind it, with its first issue published in March 1988. My involvement with IJNM dates back to 2012, when I was appointed Associate Editor. After 10 years of being part of this great Editorial Team and working in different roles (i.e., Associate Editor, Editor, and Senior Editor), I now feel ready to lead our beloved journal moving forward and to raise IJNM's profile to the next level, following the formidable footsteps of my outstanding predecessors. Working very closely with Prof. Eric Michielssen (University of Michigan, USA) at first and then with Prof. Jianming Jin (University of Illinois, USA) was truly a formative, delightful, and inspiring experience for me. Day after day, I have learned a lot by serving our journal under their leadership and guidance. My heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to Eric and Jianming! Nowadays, we are in the midst of a publishing revolution that is leading to profound transformations in the scientific publishing mission, market, and strategies. We are witnessing profound transformations, from the exponential growth of emerging technologies to the global transition toward open access to make research openly and freely available. We all know that this is an exciting and challenging time to work at the forefront of wisely and effectively shaping the future of our journal, whose success is based on teamwork. IJNM is very healthy and in very good shape, with the journal's highest Impact Factor to date: 1.436 in 2021, breaking the previous record of 1.296 set in 2020. This provides a solid foundation for growing and going forward. The position of Editor-in-Chief is a pivotal and stimulating role in which I can contribute in a more impactful way to the advancement of our journal, working together with a great team of Editorial Board Members, Authors, Reviewers, our Readership, the Journal Publishing Manager, Annabelle Lacey, and the entire Wiley staff to successfully meet IJNM's scope for the benefit of humankind, driven by the Wiley's mission of unlocking the human potential. In closing, there is no better way to describe IJNM's scope than by quoting the conclusive words of the first editorial published in the March 1988 issue by our Founder Editors, Peter B. Johns (University of Nottingham, UK) and Wolfgang J. R. Hoefer (University of Ottawa, Canada): “This journal is devoted to the art of numerical modelling. It is not restricted to a single application area, but rather covers the whole spectrum of electrical and electronic engineering. It sets out to bring together the expertise of modellers, so that modelling techniques developed in one area can be used to nucleate ideas in another.” Giovanni Crupi received a M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering (cum laude) and a Ph.D. from the University of Messina, Italy, in 2003 and in 2006, respectively. Since 2005, he has been a repeat Visiting Scientist with KU Leuven and IMEC, Leuven, Belgium. Currently, he is an Associate Professor with the University of Messina, Italy, where he teaches/taught Fundamentals of Electronics, Microwave Electronics, Wireless Technologies, Optoelectronics, and Bioengineering. His main research interests include the characterization and modeling of microwave transistors for wireless applications, as well as that of microwave sensors for bioengineering applications. He has authored or coauthored more than 200 publications in international journals and conferences. He has coedited two books published by Elsevier Academic Press: “Microwave De-embedding: From Theory To Applications” (Oxford, UK, 2013) and “Microwave Wireless Communications: From Transistor to System Level” (Oxford, UK, 2016). Dr. Crupi is Editor-in-Chief of the Wiley International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields, and also Associate Editor of the journals IEEE Access and Wiley International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer-Aided Engineering. He was Guest Editor of four special issues: two in the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques (in 2014 and 2016) and two in the Wiley International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields (in 2014 and 2021). He serves as TPC Member of the IEEE INMMiC, TELSIKS, ICTA, and MMS conferences and was also TPC Chair of the IEEE INMMiC in 2014 and 2015. Since 2012, he is the Chair of the IEEE MTT-S Graduate Fellowship program, which is one of the longest continuing education-related activities of the IEEE MTT-S and awards up to 12 Annual Fellowships (each in the amount of 6000$ plus 1000$ to attend the IEEE MTT-S IMS in USA) to encourage future leaders and key technical contributors in their pursuit of careers in RF and microwave engineering.
