Abstract
Cet article présente une démarche de recherche et d’évaluation centrée sur l’activité artistique et les apprentissages qu’elle engendre : cette démarche vient contester une limite plus ou moins consciemment posée à la reconnaissance des personnes handicapées comme artistes réalisant une authentique expérience esthétique (Dewey, 1934). Un a priori validiste veut que, lorsqu’il s’agit de personnes institutionnellement identifiées comme vivant avec une déficience intellectuelle, les activités artistiques qui leur sont proposées sont le plus souvent motivées par des prescriptions à intentions thérapeutiques ou sociales présupposant un hypothétique transfert des bénéfices de la pratique artistique dans d’autres domaines de leur existence : leurs comportements, leur participation sociale, leur « bien-être », etc. Même si les bénéfices qu’apporte l’activité artistique à l’être humain sont difficilement contestables, s’arrêter à cette appréciation générale pour ces personnes les prive d’emblée d’accéder à une reconnaissance en tant qu’artistes par le fait que leur pratique est instrumentalisée à des fins externalisées.
