L'emploi peut permettre aux Premières Nations d'augmenter leurs conditions socio-économiques et de favoriser le bien-être individuel comme collectif. En parallèle, la rareté de main-d’œuvre dans le secteur forestier canadien est croissante. Pour y répondre, il importe de considérer les difficultés d'attraction et de rétention des Premières Nations aux emplois de ce secteur, ce qui est également le sens des efforts déployés par de nombreuses Premières Nations au Québec, ainsi qu'ailleurs au Canada. Cette recherche qualitative par étude de cas s'inscrit dans la continuité des initiatives de la Première Nation des Atikamekw de Wemotaci. Elle a pour objectif de mieux comprendre les enjeux et pistes de solutions à l'attraction et la rétention de la main-d’œuvre Atikamekw dans le secteur forestier. Les résultats montrent cinq groupes d'enjeux : ( i) la perception du lien hiérarchique, ( ii) des méthodes de formation inadéquates, ( iii) la nature individuelle du travail, ( iv) l'inclusion des pratiques culturelles et ( v) la génération de retombées communautaires. Pour les acteurs du domaine forestier souhaitant favoriser l'attraction et la rétention des employés des Premières Nations, cette recherche invite à réfléchir sur leurs pratiques. Les résultats suggèrent diverses avenues pour débuter ou poursuivre une démarche de sécurisation culturelle avec les travailleurs des Premières Nations.
