Alors que la sémiotique pourrait être considérée comme « une science de la mémoire » peu de modèles sémiotiques de la mémoire ont été jusqu’ici formalisés. En regard de la rareté des travaux sémiotiques portant sur la mémoire individuelle, cet article en propose une modélisation heuristique tridimensionnelle. S’inscrivant dans les études sur la mémoire ( memory studies ), ce modèle convoque en particulier la sémiotique de la culture de Juri Lotman, s’accorde aux principes de la sémiotique peircienne et repose sur une fine compréhension études intermédiales. Les trois dimensions constitutives de la mémoire individuelle identifiées sont les dimensions personnelle, interpersonnelle et intermédiale. Des considérations approfondies seront fournies en ce qui concerne la dimension intermédiale de la mémoire individuelle, car elle constitue une avancée pour le domaine des études sémiotiques sur la mémoire en même temps qu’une partie de l’originalité de cet article. Le modèle développé tâche de décrire l’opération relationnelle des trois dimensions de la mémoire individuelle identifiées en fournissant un cas d’étude, l’ouverture des archives de la Stasi au début des années 1990, en plus d’un certain nombre d’exemples qui permettent d’en illustrer certaines particularités.
