Abstract
Le train à haute vitesse Shinkansen constitue une des grandes réalisations technologiques du Japon de l’après-guerre. Tirant ses origines des projets militaristes du Japon des années 1930, ce réseau ferroviaire lorsqu’il se réalisa à partir de 1964 a permis de résoudre certaines problématiques liées à la circulation des personnes au sein de l’archipel. De plus, il a permis de créer un puissant instrument d’aménagement du territoire et de développement régional. C’est au cours des années 1950, que le gouvernement du Japon planifia la construction de la première ligne Shinkansen entre Tokyo et Osaka. Devant le succès remporté, les années 1960 et 1970 furent celles de l’essor sur le papier et dans la réalité du réseau. Ralenti par les frais élevés d’implantation du train à haute vitesse, l’avènement du mini-Shinkansen allait permettre de réaliser la desserte du territoire à des coûts plus abordables.
