Abstract
El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar cómo influyen las características físicas de los materiales granulares en su comportamiento mecánico. Para este caso se eligieron dos arenas nacionales las cuales son Guamo y Guayuriba y otra internacional que es Ottawa. Partiendo desde los ensayos de caracterización física se obtienen resultados de Cu, Gs, emin, emax, ρmin y ρmax, para determinar su efecto en los parámetros de resistencia, resultantes del ensayo de corte directo en condición consolidada drenada. La campaña experimental consta de 27 ensayos realizados a las 3 arenas para los esfuerzos verticales de 50 kPa, 100 kPa y 200 kPa con densidades relativas de 30%, 60% y 90% y una velocidad de corte de 1.0 mm/min. De esta manera se encontró la relación directa entre los valores físicos de ρr y las variables correspondientes a la resistencia al esfuerzo cortante máximo de (tmax), de ángulo de fricción (ϕ) y de cohesión.
