Abstract
O livro Red zones: criminal law and the territorial governance of marginalized people, de autoria de Marie-Eve Sylvestre (direito), Nicholas Blomley (geografia) e Céline Bellot (serviço social) trata da análise do material de pesquisa a respeito do sistema de justiça criminal do Canadá. O trabalho foi desenvolvido nas cidades de Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto e Ottawa, por meio de pesquisa de campo e de arquivos jurídicos, além da realização de entrevistas com diversos operadores ligados à justiça criminal e interlocutores afetados por tal justiça. Um dos argumentos principais do livro é o de que os dispositivos legais pautados em estratégias de penas alternativas que visam à liberdade condicional na prática têm se mostrado um sofisticado sistema de vigilância e controle rígidos sobre populações historicamente marginalizadas, que suspende seus direitos básicos, ao colocá-los em espaços que a Justiça canadense denomina “zonas vermelhas”.
