Au cours de la première vague pandémique au printemps 2020, la société québécoise a assisté, incrédule, à une dégradation accélérée des soins dans les CHSLD (centres d’hébergement et de soins de longue durée) et au désarroi des soignants et des aidants face à cette situation. Souvent stigmatisé socialement et qualifié dans la littérature comme un travail ingrat (dirty work), le rôle tenu par les préposés aux bénéficiaires auprès de personnes âgées fragilisées des CHSLD n’aura jamais été vu comme aussi essentiel et vital. Devant les difficultés rencontrées dans la revalorisation du personnel accomplissant un travail ingrat dans ce contexte de crise, force est de constater le manque de modèle à suivre pour gérer éthiquement ces ressources humaines ; la recherche en ce domaine étant relativement sous-développée. Par ailleurs, la recherche en gestion des crises montre que les décideurs eux-mêmes manquent à leurs engagements en négligeant leurs responsabilités en amont et en aval des moments de crise. Cet article vise donc à dégager des propositions concrètes pour combler cette double carence éthique et ainsi proposer un modèle axé sur une gestion éthique des soins mettant l’accent sur la gestion des ressources humaines et le développement organisationnel, en amont et en aval des crises.
