Abstract
Le musée des Civilisations de Côte d’Ivoire, d’origine coloniale, est historiquement lié au programme muséal développé par l’Institut français d’Afrique noire (Ifan) à partir des années 1940. La figure de Bohumil Holas, ethnologue tchèque naturalisé français, qui dirige le musée d’Abidjan de 1948 à 1978, se révèle centrale. Mêlant stratégies personnelles et programme scientifique ou muséographique, il parvient en effet à composer avec les valeurs scientifiques, esthétiques et politiques des collections pour servir les enjeux de politique intérieure et extérieure : mettre en scène l’inventaire des ethnies qui composent la nouvelle nation indépendante et développer une forme de diplomatie muséale utile pour le pouvoir ivoirien. Sans oublier les réseaux dans lesquels l’ethnologue s’inscrit, qui dessinent une autre géopolitique des musées africains à l’ère des décolonisations.
