Pixelated AMC Design Using Digital Microfluidics

Abstract
In this paper, a 4.5 GHz pixelized artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) ground plane is dynamically reconfigured using digital microfluidics. The AMC ground plane comprises pixelized unit cells interconnected by liquid metal switches. Depending on the applied bias, these interconnects can be switched on or off, resulting in a change in unit cell geometry and consequently, operating frequency. Simulation results show that the AMC operating frequency can be switched among 2.24 GHz, 4.5 GHz, 4.6 GHz, and 5GHz.
