Abstract

Medium voltage motor control centers (MVMCC), designed around the requirements of UL 347 [1], have been successfully used in the forest product industries for many decades. As they continue to provide consistent control of large medium voltage assets, they have also become key components within the intelligent control requirements of today's ever changing industrial facilities. Through the incorporation of proven safety technologies employed within other globally safety-based products, these traditional medium voltage control products can be moved beyond their present safety requirements specified by their current product design and testing standards. In this paper we will cover the utilization of these proven technologies and the additional levels of personnel safety added to these traditional designs.
