Abstract
Cet article porte sur l’histoire des identités et des solidarités francophones générées au sein de l’industrie musicale country-western de Nashville, Tennessee, dans les années 1960 et 1970. Le succès de certains artistes dans ce milieu, dont le Louisianais Jimmy C. Newman et le Québécois Willie Lamothe, leur donne accès aux réseaux de la diplomatie culturelle francophone d’Amérique du Nord. Ils y introduisent une modalité particulière de la référence au passé, une nostalgie déterritorialisée qui vient moduler les modalités ethniques et nationales produites par le paradigme folklorique. Ils alimentent ainsi le « traumatisme culturel » de la conquête de l’Amérique française et revitalisent une communauté imaginée blanche qui s’étend aux quatre coins du continent.
