Abstract
About a third of the members of the Catholic, Protestant and Jewish clergy participating in the First World War were awarded the Croix de Guerre. Their presence and their calling contribute, with other factors, to keep the troops in high spirits.But the clergymen’s Croix de Guerre takes on all its significance as a mark of their devotion to their patriotic and military duties, whereas before 1914, a portion of the public opinion contested their attachment to their country.
