Abstract
Cet article est une réflexion sur la formation actuelle en soins infirmiers psychiatriques au premier cycle universitaire. Après avoir précisé sa propre conception de ce qu'est une infirmière psychiatrique compétente, l'auteure fait des suggestions et soulève les difficultés rencontrées par le professeur pour développer chez l'étudiante une conception de la personne inspirée de l'approche humaniste, un intérêt réel pour le client ayant des problèmes de santé mentale et les qualités personnelles ainsi que les habiletés nécessaires pour établir, maintenir et mener à terme une relation d'aide avec le client. L'auteure termine en insistant sur le fait que, tout comme dans les autres disciplines, on doit améliorer la formation des étudiantes. Cependant, elle insiste surtout sur la nécessité de redonner à la relation infirmière-client l'importance qu'elle doit avoir.
