Malgré la diversité des pratiques et des approches utilisées, l’objectif commun à tous les animateurs culturels est de favoriser le changement vers un mieux-vivre ensemble. Leur rôle vise à dynamiser le milieu en créant des ponts entre les divers acteurs culturels, les citoyens et le monde politique. Leurs actions facilitent le développement de la capacité des citoyens à devenir des acteurs de changement dans leur communauté. L’animation peut augmenter l’impact de différents groupes sociaux en mettant en place des projets leur permettant de participer activement à la construction de la société. Peu importe auprès de qui il intervient, l’animateur doit avoir une connaissance approfondie du territoire d’action et des cultures présentes. Pour ce faire, il est indispensable qu’une expérience pratique pertinente complète la formation théorique. L’animateur culturel doit aussi être imaginatif puisque la créativité est son modus operandi. En effet, l’animation déploie une pratique qui utilise des manières de faire novatrices qui visent à développer la créativité d’individus ou d’une population. En ce sens, elle peut être décrite comme la capacité de créer et d’innover ensemble.
