Abstract
Dans un mouvement global de créations de chambres de commerce françaises à l’étranger initié en 1883 par le gouvernement de la Troisième République, le consul général de France à Québec, Georges Dubail, mobilise les industriels et commerçants français installés sur les bords du Saint-Laurent pour fonder une chambre de commerce française à Montréal, la ville qui s’impose comme la capitale économique du Canada. C’est une des toutes premières aux Amériques, ce qui témoigne des liens particuliers entre les deux pays et d’une double volonté de développer les échanges commerciaux et les flux financiers. La CCFM s’affirmera comme un instrument essentiel de soutien à cette politique et un précieux outil de connaissances du Canada pour les consuls généraux de France, installés à Montréal à partir de 1894.
