Abstract
Significance Opinion polls suggest that more than one-third of voters back the Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ), signalling a comfortable victory, but indicate a close four-way race for second place between the Conservatives, Liberals, Parti Quebecois and Quebec Solidaire. The outcome of that race could produce significant changes in Quebec’s political landscape and eventually in Ottawa. Impacts A third- or fourth-place finish would hasten a loss of relevance for the Quebec Liberal Party and the Parti Quebecois. Quebec Solidaire looks set to become the dominant left-wing party in Quebec by 2030 as the Conservatives move to the right. CAQ policy on language laws and other cultural issues will see some anglophones considering a move to English-speaking provinces.
