Le présent texte n’est pas le fruit d’une théorie sociologique éprouvée. Il s’agit plutôt d’un questionnement exploratoire sur l’apport de la sociologie à la formation et la pratique des infirmières dans le contexte de la mondialisation. Notre propos porte plus précisément sur le décloisonnement des disciplines et de l’apport de l’interdisciplinarité. À cet égard, nous mettons en perspective une nouvelle approche conceptuelle appelée « l’approche socio-environnementale de la santé » (Bouchard et ses collègues ; 2002) qui permet d’introduire et d’ interroger des notions comme la gouvernance, la mondialisation, le capital social, la qualité de vie et des soins. Cet ensemble conceptuel n’est pas exhaustif ni même homogène. Il permet seulement de réfléchir aux enjeux qui se présentent à nous dans le développement de la pratique des soins infirmiers ; enjeux qui nécessitent un décloisonnement disciplinaire.
