Le quatrième Forum Villes Régions Monde organisé par l'INRS de Montréal en mai 2012 portait sur les représentations de la ville et de ses territoires. Il s'agissait de faire le point sur la façon dont sont généralement abordées les représentations territoriales et urbaines et sur les démarches méthodologiques qui caractérisent la recherche contemporaine sur ce thème. Ce forum international a été l'occasion de présenter quelques exemples récents d'application en recherche, autour de trois dimensions principales : une dimension politique, une dimension aménagiste et une dimension artistique. Cet article résume les différentes étapes de construction d'une " géographie de la musique " telle qu'elle s'est développée ces dernières années dans les pays anglophones et francophones. Il pose quelques outils d'analyse permettant d'envisager le couple "musique/ville" comme un objet géographique. Il recense et classe les différentes approches méthodologiques adoptées par les auteurs, avant d'en discuter la portée et les limites.
