Abstract
Pendant plus d’un siècle et demi, le théâtre haïtien se subdivisait en deux sous-genres, le drame historique ou patriotique et la comédie. Son esthétique, tributaire de la tradition française, par ses contraintes linguistiques et dramaturgiques en a fait un théâtre fermé aux potentialités théâtrales de la culture haïtienne. La revalorisation du créole et du vaudou par l’Indigénisme a débouché sur une nouvelle esthétique théâtrale, plus ouverte à ces potentialités. Les deux promoteurs de cette dramaturgie inspirée de la culture populaires sont Félix Morisseau-Leroy et Franck Fouché qui ont rompu avec un théâtre destiné à une petite élite pour s’adresser à au peuple haïtien.
