Abstract
Selon la Guinéenne, Hadja Sarang Seck, l’imaginaire n’a pas de frontières. Cet article se veut une étude comparative de la littérature jeunesse des deux côtés de l’Atlantique—du Canada et de l’Afrique. Les ressemblances se trouvent surtout au niveau de la représentation des identités masculines et féminines. Malgré les bagages culturels différents qui les inspirent, les œuvres évoquées ici tendent non seulement à sanctionner l’inconscient collectif de leurs auteurs adultes, mais à conserver les préjugés collectifs de leur milieu respectifs. Pourtant, une différence importante se remarque: la littérature jeunesse de Sarang Seck prend un accent décidemment plus féministe que celle des écrivains canadiens. Ses œuvres respirent un « féminisme africain », nourri du principe de la relativité du féminisme peu connu en Occident. Si le mouvement féministe atteint son apogée en Occident dans les années 1960, il est encore d’actualité dans plusieurs pays d’Afrique occidentale.
