Abstract
La prestation de soins culturellement adaptés aux besoins de santé des populations non occidentales pose un défi au personnel infirmier issu de sociétés occidentales pluralistes. En effet, les limitations liées à l’utilisation de théories dites « culturalistes » doivent être reconnues car ces approches minimisent l’impact du contexte social sur la santé des populations non occidentales. Les inégalités sociales engendrent des problèmes de santé et ces inégalités doivent être examinées, afin de développer des interventions infirmières culturellement adaptées. L’approche post-coloniale représente une voie novatrice, visant la compréhension des problèmes de santé liés à la « race », à l’appartenance ethnique, au genre et aux classes sociales. La démarche de recherche consiste à intégrer le savoir « marginalisé » dans la théorisation infirmière. De plus, l’application du concept de la sécurité culturelle, permet d’adapter la prestation du soin infirmier aux besoins de santé des personnes provenant d’ethnies non occidentales.
