Abstract
Antecedentes: La vejiga hiperactiva afecta la calidad de vida de las y los pacientes. Existen casos que son refractarios al tratamiento médico o con contraindicación al mismo. El uso de la toxina botulínica intradetrusor es una modalidad terapéutica en este tipo de casos. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo en 18 pacientes de la Unidad de Urología de Hospital General de Enfermedades del Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social a quienes se les administro toxina botulínica intradetrusor. El estudio se realizó mediante el análisis del Cuestionario de King previo y posterior al procedimiento. Resultados: Hubo una respuesta satisfactoria en el 88 % de los casos con una mejoría perceptible en la calidad de vida de las pacientes, pero también se presentaron efectos colaterales como resido post micción con infección del tracto urinario y en una ocasión con cateterismo. Conclusión: El uso de toxina botulínica en pacientes con vejiga hiperactiva es beneficioso y puede mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes.
