Abstract

Abstract A chemical circular reaction with three states is considered. An external dichotomic signal switches between two sets of reaction rates. Without signal both sets of rates obey the law of mass action. For finite switching times of the dichotomic perturbation a directed clock wise flow between the three states arises. We show that the directed flow is sufficient to induce a pattern forming process. An optimal switching frequency can be found where clusters form most rapidly.
