Abstract
Cette note de recherche remet en question l’idée que les nobles canadiens furent mal reçus en France après la conquête de 1760 et qu’ils peinèrent à s’insérer dans la société métropolitaine de la fin du 18e siècle. René Gédéon Potier de Pommeroy (1730-1822) y poursuit en effet sa carrière militaire et fait un beau remariage qui assure la fortune de sa descendance au sein de la noblesse sur au moins trois générations. Le texte aborde entre autres la lente intégration dans la noblesse française de familles venues des colonies, de faible notoriété et de noblesse douteuse ; l’insertion de nobles d’Ancien Régime dans les nouvelles élites du 19e siècle ; et la stratégie de l’homopatronymie pour obtenir l’appui d’un protecteur de haute noblesse.
