L’article rend compte des premiers résultats d’une recherche menée depuis l’automne 2020 sur l’état et l’évolution, chez des élèves inscrits à un cours d’Histoire du Québec et du Canada de quatrième secondaire, de la littératie, définie comme la capacité à comprendre et à communiquer de l’information dans le cadre d’un champ de connaissances, en l’occurrence l’histoire (Martel, 2018; Nokes, 2013). Nous en cherchons et analysons des manifestations dans les productions écrites des élèves sous deux angles : l’utilisation des documents et la production de textes historiques. L’analyse des productions d’élèves en fonction de ces deux perspectives montre les contours d’une littératie historique marquée par une difficulté certaine à exploiter les documents historiques pour construire une interprétation cohérente et à produire des textes historiques qui tiennent compte à la fois de l’espace, du temps et de la causalité.
