Le paysage archivistique québécois est marqué par plusieurs figures de proue. Ces archivistes ont permis, et permettent encore aujourd’hui, la valorisation de la profession auprès du grand public ainsi que l’implantation de cadres et de procédés assurant une meilleure gestion des archives. Parmi ces archivistes, Gilles Héon a célébré ses cinquante années d’adhésion et d’implication auprès de l’Association des archivistes du Québec en 2020. À travers plus d’une centaine de textes, de contributions et de communications, Gilles Héon a su faire valoir l’importance de la profession et le rôle primordial des archives dans l’écriture de l’histoire nationale. L’article propose une rétrospective des écrits les plus marquants de Gilles Héon ayant été publiés entre 1971 et 2017. Sont abordées la fonction historique des Archives nationales du Québec et l’importance de l’Inventaire national ; suivis des écrits traitant de la classification et des instruments de recherche, en soulignant le rôle central des plans de classification, dans le traitement et la mise en valeur des documents ; viennent ensuite les archives religieuses, ayant une portée historique indéniable, mais dont, faute de ressources, la conservation est menacée ; puis finalement, les écrits portant sur la gestion des documents personnels.
