En 1820, Pelletier et Caventou isole la quinine à partir du quinquina, Francis Maillot l'utilise en Algérie pour le traitement du paludisme en 1834. Les sels de quinine sont de plus en plus utilisés, ils sont fabriqués par de nombreux industriels qui créent les premières usines pharmaceutiques. La fabrication de sels de quinine devient la plus importante fabrication de la Pharmacie centrale de l'Arméée.In 1820 Pelletier and Caventou isolated quinine from quinqina powder.
