Abstract
Lors de leurs préparatifs pour libérer l’Europe, les alliés prirent des décisions concernant la monnaie dont seraient pourvus les militaires pour leurs achats dans les zones de combat et le rétablissement d’un ordre monétaire dans les régions libérées. Quant à la France, les chefs alliés s’opposaient à la reconnaissance officielle de Charles de Gaulle et du CFLN, bien qu’ils représentassent la seule autorité compétente pour gérer les affaires civiles dans les zones libérées. Les Alliés ont donc débarqué en Normandie avec des Allied Military francs , imprimés aux États-Unis et autorisés par le général Eisenhower, mais de Gaulle a qualifié ces billets de « fausse monnaie ». Ce conflit montre combien la souveraineté monétaire était un attribut fondamental de la souveraineté nationale au moment de libération.
