Cet article étudie les liens entre la montée des églises du réveil, et plus globalement la religion chrétienne, et le discours promotionnel de la bière dans les années 1990 à Kinshasa (République démocratique du Congo). Nous avons fait des analyses sociosémiotiques approfondies de trois spots publicitaires, diffusés entre 1993 et 1994. Les analyses révèlent que les textes des publicités sont émaillés d’allusions religieuses chrétiennes, avec des références à la rhétorique des églises du réveil du Congo et des traces de la religion catholique, ce que nous pouvons considérer comme des discours euphémiques ou « dédramatisants » en faveur de la bière. Ces discours apportent une contribution corrective ou de « recatégorisation » (Bonhomme et Horak, 2009) aux discours antérieurs de nature dépréciative dont la bière était (et est encore) victime à Kinshasa, à cause des enseignements de certaines formations religieuses du courant pentecôtiste qui sont contre la consommation des boissons alcoolisées.
