Abstract
How can Daoism benefit Western education? Here open Access Government speaks to Dr Tom Culham on the benefits of incorporating Daoism in Western education. Throughout this illuminating interview, Dr Culham looks at how Daoism could be used to progress current societies on an international scale. Culham explains that the world is in crisis - we have emphasised reason and neglected the whole human including feeling and emotion in Western education. Daoism teaches us to embrace rational thinking and feeling to broaden and deepen our connection to others and the lived world. He explains how western cultures emphasise logic and rational thinking over all else, at the expense of feelings and emotions. Culham believes that in the a current society there is a need to marry both western thinkings and eastern traditions to solve international and personal problems.
