Abstract
Leo Dandurand is best known for his success as owner of the Montreal Canadiens, successfully positioningthe team as by and for French Canadians. In 1924, fresh off a Stanley Cup win, he tried his hand atbaseball, taking over a team in the Class B Eastern Canada League. He brought the same philosophy to thediamond, vowing to recruit as many French Canadians as possible. Even if the team had little success on thefield and at the gate, Dandurand’s philosophy still had a lasting impact, notably through his influence as a boardmember of the Montreal Royals.
