Abstract
A 20-year-old female presented with a 1-week history of odynophagia, decreased oral intake, and intermittent sharp chest pain. She had started taking doxycycline 3 days prior to onset of odynophagia for the management of acne. Physical examination and bloodwork were unremarkable. Upper endoscopy revealed circumferential ulceration at 25 cm from the incisors consistent with pill esophagitis (Figure 1). The squamocolumnar junction was identified and was normal, there was no distal esophagitis. The patient was placed on sucralfate suspension 1 g orally four times daily for 8 weeks as well as viscous lidocaine orally as needed for pain. Endoscopic demonstration of circumferential ulceration at 25 cm consistent with pill-induced esophagitis under white light imaging (a and b) and linked colour imaging (c and d).
