Abstract
Peintre d’origine flamande, arrivé sur le chantier bellifontain en 1536, Léonard Thiry (actif en 1533 – Anvers, vers 1550) fut un proche collaborateur de Rosso Fiorentino. Il a largement contribué à diffuser l’art de la première école de Fontainebleau grâce aux nombreuses estampes qui furent gravées d’après ses compositions. Son catalogue peut désormais être enrichi d’une douzaine de dessins, issus de collections publiques, ou récemment passés sur le marché de l’art, étudiées dans cet article. Trois d’entre eux, au moins, viennent étoffer le groupe des copies d’après Rosso, notamment d’après les compositions de la Galerie François Ier. Plusieurs feuilles examinées illustrent l’importance du travail de Thiry dans le domaine de l’estampe d’une part et de l’ornement d’autre part. Des compositions originales, pour la peinture ou le vitrail, permettent également d’étudier la personnalité artistique de Thiry libérée de l’empreinte de Rosso.
