Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

I have spent a little over ten years-roughly one-third of my life-mulling over the argument of this book. This kind of time commitment means that any proper acknowledgement would include pretty much all the individuals with whom I have had a sustained relationship during my late undergraduate and postgraduate education, as well as in my early professional career.I want to begin by thanking all these people, who, I hope, will recognize themselves here. That being said, there is a smaller group of individuals that has been absolutely central to the development of my work and thought, and to whom I want to express my deep gratitude in a more direct fashion.I conducted most of the research for this book during a DPhil completed at the University of Oxford, generously funded by both the Fond de Recherche du Québec

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
