Abstract
À travers une lecture du Tableau de la Suisse (1618) du voyageur français Marc Lescarbot, cet article s’interroge sur l’altération des toponymes helvétiques. Parce qu’il s’agit d’un récit de voyage versifié, cette réflexion touche à des questions d’ordre poétique, mais aussi aux enjeux politiques relatifs à la posture diplomatique de Lescarbot en Suisse. Il est ainsi possible de rapprocher le Tableau de la Suisse de l’idéologie coloniale défendue par le voyageur dans son Histoire de la Nouvelle-France , publiée dix ans plus tôt, et rapportant les nombreuses tentatives d’établissement français outre-Atlantique.
