Half-Bridge Current Source Inverter for Grid-Connected Applications

Abstract
This paper presents a new single-phase grid-connected Current Source Inverter (C.S.I.) topology which is a single-stage converter and utilizes only two switching devices. This approach reduces power semiconductor count, and more importantly, it will increase reliability due to fewer active switching devices. Moreover, there are no high voltage electrolytic capacitors at the dc input of the converter, which leads to a longer lifetime of the converter. The principle of operation of the proposed C.S.I. will be presented and verified using experimental results. Performance evaluation is shown with a good agreement with the theoretical knowledge.
