Abstract
Considérant que l’humanité se manifeste concrètement à travers une multiplicité de sociétés aux langues, mœurs, institutions diverses, le texte entend soulever l’hypothèse d’un « besoin d’appartenance » naturel aux êtres individués, lequel se décline sous la forme d’un attachement cognitif, normatif et expressif aux « identités collectives » qui en sont le vecteur de socialisation. À partir de ce fondement ontologique commun, la modernité offre une forme particulière de communauté par l’intermédiaire de la « nation », à l’articulation du politique et du culturel. Le délitement contemporain de cette unité symbolique ouvre la porte à une multitude d’identités alternatives et concurrentes, dont il faut reconnaître la nécessité existentielle tout autant que la construction idéologique.
